“Pocket Park” opens on 1798 Street

pocketpark A beautifully designed new landscaped “garden” on Wexford’s 1798 Street has its official opening on Thursday, April 25 at 11.30am. The project, a collaborative effort involving Wexford Tidy Towns and Wexford Borough Council, transforms what was a very unloved space into something altogether different. Two spaces, on either side of the road, have been transformed, in a simple but effective way, with meandering pathways, carefully stocked flower-beds, shrubs, trees and wall trellises. Attractive seating will be installed shortly. The designers have given a serious nod to biodiversity in the choice of plants and the decision to leave wild strips along walls. The birds, bees and butterflies will be happy here! Overall, this is a clever use of a relatively small area. The hope is that this oasis of calm will be embraced by the local community and become a place to meet, chat and simply relax.

Spring Clean at Westgate

The Wexford Tidy Towns Spring Clean campaign returned to the town’s historic Westgate area yesterday. One more weekend still to go in what has been a mammoth drive to make this the most success Spring Clean yet. The final clean-up of the month takes place at The Rocks, Maudlintown at 10am on next Saturday (April 27). Please come out and join us. You will be pleasantly surprised at how much craic you can have while actually doing much needed good works. Bibs, gloves, pickers, etc provided. And, as always, there’s a cuppa and scone afterwards.

Wexford Town achieves Bronze in National Tidy Towns Competition!

Delighted to let you all know that we were awarded Bronze today in the ‘G’ Category ( Large Town ) in the National Irish Tidy Towns Awards. We also were awarded 1st Prize in the Gum Litter Task Force Award.

A big THANK YOU to all involved, from the organizing Committee to the hard working Volunteer task force to the increasingly caring and aware residents of Wexford, who have shown by their example, and by their encouragement – 2,157 Facebook followers/friends who are always supportive – that we can make Wexford a cleaner and more beautiful place both to live and to visit.

You can see the full Adjudication Report for Wexford here.

Once again, thank you and congratulations to everyone who played their part!
