WTT Action Days for National Spring Clean

As part of the National Spring Clean Wexford Tidy Towns will be holding a series of Action Days and events throughout the month of April.

Firstly we are looking for a few volunteers to meet at 6pm in the car park beside the Opera House on Wednesday evening April the 8th to get things prepared for the following Saturday. Beginning on Saturday 11th the group will be out planting, painting and tidying up on William Street and Trinity Street and heading out towards Rosslare to Kerlogue. Another team of volunteers will be planting a new bed at Carcur as well as doing some general tidying in that area. The meeting place will be at Aspels on The Crescent at 10.00am. The more volunteers we have the more that we can get done. As usual all tools and equipment will be provided as well as protective clothing. The event will last up to 2 hours and volunteers will gather afterwards for tea and coffee and a chat.

From Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th April Wexford Tidy Towns will begin weekly intensive cleaning and maintenance at two sites in Wexford town. Every Wednesday evening at 6.00pm we will be focusing on The Bullring and outside the AIB and St Iberius Church. On Thursdays we will work at Selskar Square, Selskar Street and Well Lane to Selskar Abbey. These concentrated cleaning sessions will ensure that these three key areas in the town are kept to a very high standard. We will be working with local businesses and residents to ensure that the centre of our town is cleaned to the highest standard. We will also be meeting up on Saturday 18th and Saturday 25th to do some flower bed planting around the town.

These intensive cleaning and maintenance actions will back up the fantastic work of the Gateway Programme that are so excellent at cleaning the centre of town. These action events each Wednesday and Thursday begin at 6.00pm and last about one hour (these will continue right through until the end of September). As usual all equipment and protective clothing will be provided.

Contact us by email at info@wexfordtidytowns.com if you want any more information or just turn up at any of the Action days to join us. We encourage everyone to consider giving us an hour every week to help make Wexford a cleaner, more beautiful place.

Tidy Towns News December 2014

bronzeaward2014Members of Wexford Tidy Towns picked up the Bronze medal that we were awarded earlier this year at the National Tidy Town Awards at the Regional Awards Ceremony held in Kilkenny at the end of November. Congratulations to everyone who helped us receive this award, from the volunteers to business owners and residents who all play a role in keeping Wexford clean and beautiful. We were delighted to regain our bronze award this year.

We had our last clean-up of the year on 13th December meeting at the Bullring. Thank you to everyone who came along and wore their festive Christmas hats! Some photos of the clean-up taken by our friends in Love Redmond Park can be found here. We had very little litter to pick up thanks to the Gateway people who are a credit to our town. We got 31 people to sign up for the Green Dog Walkers more details on that scheme and how you can sign up be found here. We also gave out a lot of cigarette pouches, now we hope everyone remembers to use them. Bin your cigarette butts!

Wexford Tidy Towns wishes everyone a Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year. Thank you for all your support this year to Wexford Tidy Towns and to anyone who helped out in any way. We look forward to your continued support throughout 2015 and to making next year an even bigger success for Wexford Tidy Towns.

Love Redmond Park Planting

Well done to Love Redmond Park who have done a recent spot of gardening getting ready for Spring next year. All going well, by late Spring they will have a brilliant splash of colour just inside the park railings of Redmond Park, at the town end. The flowers and herbs they have chosen, largely perennial, should ensure that there are beautiful colours and scents there from Spring right though to late Autumn. There is Helenium, Lupinus ‘Gallery Rose Shades’, Chamomile, Salvia nemorosa Ostfriesland, Digitalis purpurea Dalmation F1 Purple, Anemone x hybrida (Japanese Anemone).
